Agecko in 2024 – a New Year round-up

As 2024 came to a close, we took a moment to reflect on the last 12 months. A lot happened throughout the year. While we looked forward to the future, it was important to acknowledge our achievements and milestones.

1. Keeping track

Our carbon-saving reporting software came into full force this year. These automated reports showed clients the impact they made by working with us. They visualised the amount of carbon emissions prevented, often comparing it to the equivalent savings in flight passenger hours, annual household bills, or trees planted.

The software helped businesses understand the work we did and the benefits it brought. By keeping track of carbon footprints, our clients were able to adapt their behaviours and create a bigger sustainable impact. It also allowed us to consider new ways to help them in the future.

We tailored each report to suit the needs of our clients, ensuring they had access to the most relevant and impactful information.

2. Navigating together: Harnessing the power of teamwork

In October, Natan, Sam, Will and Charlotte hit the sea, taking a “Competent Crew Sailing course” in Gibraltar. We passed thanks to a great team effort. Everyone involved had a fantastic time.

A few years ago, the directors of Agecko teamed up with Will Higgs to establish Marine and Boat Recycling Ltd. It’s the first zero waste to landfill facility for the recycling and complete disposal of end-of-life boats. Agecko’s total waste management knowledge together with Will’s experience within the marine industry has made this new venture such a success in 2024. They have lots of plans for 2025, keep an eye on what they are up to on their website and socials.

3. Sustainable practices

As a waste management company, sustainability is at our core. Aside from our work, we see the importance of engaging with sustainable practices elsewhere.

So how have we made a difference this year?

In February, we made significant strides in our sustainability progress 2024 by partnering with Carma, Green Task Force, and RSPCA Hull to plant 1,000 trees in the UK.

The Green Task Force employs veterans with PTSD for services such as tree planting, grounds maintenance, and litter removal.

This nature-based therapy has proven to have a positive effect on mental health.

Whereas, Carma allows businesses to track carbon emissions and targets. We can then offset emissions by funding environmental initiatives, known as carbon credits.

Celebrating our sustainability achievements in 2024

We’re proud of the sustainability progress 2024 brought, from carbon reduction initiatives to community involvement, all contributing to a greener future. In 2024, we removed 700 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions from the atmosphere and created 10 whole workdays.

4. Fundraising

With many causes close to our hearts, we have participated in a variety of fundraising activities.

One of these organisations was the RSPCA. After helping to plant 1000 trees, we also collected donations on their behalf. This gesture included food, towels, sheets, bathmats, blankets, and toys.

Honouring loved ones through charitable efforts

This past year Sara lost an incredibly close friend to cancer. Darren unfortunately lost his fight against the disease after only a few short months, leaving behind his new wife and family.

We thought it was incredibly important to raise money on his behalf for the charities that helped and supported Darren and his family through such a terrible time.

Darrens funeral was held in August where £1200 was collected in his memory. This was split between The Royal British Legion and Ward 35 at Leeds Hospital.

On the 21st September on what should have been Darren and Mia’s original wedding day Sara, Mia, and several of Darren’s friends and family took on an inflatable 5k, raising money for Whiteknights Yorkshire Blood Bikes. Weekly blood transfusions helped Darren and Mia spend extra time together, allowing time for them to bring their wedding forward to the 8th May 2024. Whiteknights deliver blood, plasma and tissue outside normal working hours, making it such a worthy charity.

A total of £3408.75 was raised on the day, with Agecko’s donation of £200.

We donated to an amazing project with Springhill Court, an assisted living housing association based in Easingwold, close to Agecko. Their garden needed some much-needed TLC and we helped provide funds to rejuvenate the space for residents.

The completed project looks amazing! We’re thrilled to be involved with this project and hope the residents enjoy it thoroughly.

We also donated 42kg of essential items to York Food Bank. Their work is incredibly important to the local community. It was only right to give back.

Looking back, the sustainability progress 2024 allowed us to enhance our waste management practices and strengthen our commitment to a more sustainable planet

Don’t start the new year relying on good luck to solve your waste issues.

2025 brings the ‘Simpler Recycling’ regulations into effect, which should change how businesses across the country recycle. We expect many people will encounter teething problems. This is why we want to support businesses through how they manage their waste in the new system.

At Agecko, we remain committed to ensuring that your business stays on the path to sustainability. If you need assistance in becoming more sustainable in 2025, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

🦎 p.s. We have an exciting surprise in store for 2025 and can’t wait to share it with all of you! 🦎
