How much waste gets recycled by Agecko: Our 2024 data

Reflecting on our waste management efforts, we can help you to fully understand the impact and scale of Agecko’s services. It’s too early to see the complete picture of our work for 2025, but 2024 saw incredibly impressive numbers of waste collected from January to December. Agecko collected tens of thousands of tonnes of waste from clients throughout the country. So let’s break it down.

Paper and Cardboard

Agecko’s partners collected 911+ tonnes of paper waste over the course of 2024. This is the equivalent of four of the Statues of Liberty or nearly 150,000 World Cup trophies. Paper is an incredibly sustainable material. It’s vital for Agecko to divert this waste away from landfill sites and deliver on its sustainable potential.

Paper can be recycled up to seven times, helping to limit the need for gathering raw materials from manufacturing. Additionally, trees are a regenerative material, meaning forests harvested for paper manufacturing can undergo regeneration efforts to offset environmental damage.

Cardboard, similar to paper, is a highly recyclable material. This is why it’s important to divert as much of it as possible away from landfills. Businesses across the country throw away cardboard daily, meaning we have plenty to collect over 2024. In total, we collected nearly 4490 tonnes of cardboard, the weight of roughly 641 double-decker buses or 599 fully-grown oak trees!

Plastic

Many people worry about plastic usage and its detrimental effect on the environment. However, if your business has an effective waste management plan, we can ensure it’s sustainably disposed of or reused.

In 2024, Agecko collected nearly 2820 tonnes of plastic waste, equal to the weight of a WWII-era destroyer or 470 African elephants. After we collected this plastic, we ensured that we recycled and repurposed as much as possible. This reduces the amount of plastic in landfills, keeping disruptive plastics out of ecosystems, minimising environmental harm.

Metal

Metal waste is incredibly useful for repurposing and re-use, with many types able to be recycled infinitely without decreasing in quality. As our waste management plans are tailored to every client, we take special care to ensure that contaminated metals receive proper treatment. In total, our waste management partners collected 2513 tonnes of metal waste over 2024, a weight comparable to that of a 40-car freight train or 1257 Jeeps.

Food

The waste we collected the most of (by weight) is food waste. An incredible 8588 total tonnes, equal to 21 Boeing 747 aeroplanes, or the weight of the Eiffel Tower. The real one too- not the Las Vegas miniature!

The diverse possibilities for recycling food waste are what makes it so great. Renewable energy is a hot topic right now, and with food waste able to become biofuel, it’s important for businesses to divert their waste away from landfill. Additionally, it can be used within agriculture, helping farmers to fertilise their crops, putting important nutrients into their soil.

Discussing every specific waste type could take all day, so it’s best to wrap things up here.

Over 2024, Agecko collected incredible amounts of waste, resulting in a highly positive environmental impact, with thousands of tonnes of recyclable materials diverted from being dumped in a landfill. Each waste stream highlights the potential different materials have through recycling, demonstrating the importance of sustainable waste management.

These statistics are a testament to both our clients’ commitment to hitting their sustainable goals, as well as our own efforts to help our clients make a difference.
